Julie Durkee Biography

Durkee learned to bake as a child, helping her mother in the kitchen. She polished her skills at schools in France and Italy and from top bakers such as Jim Dodge, Alice Medrich and Joanne Vasquez. She now operates a bakery in San Leandro that specializes in custom cakes.

For the Getty family, she has made a cakes in the shape of a bathtub full of liquor bottles and a giant Kewpie doll. She's made birthday cakes for Gov. Gray Davis and a wedding cake for Don Johnson.
